The day felt like standing at the edge of an ocean.
Never had I walked so slowly, so quietly through the park. I discovered each footstep, each pinprick. Small drops of rain pattered in low, hushed drum beats, skipped off last year’s dry leaves.
Further ahead along the bridle path the woman asked a friend (daughter?), Do you want to head back? Are you cold?
